Heuvel Eindhoven nominated for the international Breeam Award with two Breeam Outstanding Classifications

Heuvel shopping centre in Eindhoven is the first shopping centre in the Netherlands to receive BREEAM Outstanding In-Use Certificates for both ‘Asset’ and ‘Management’. A unique achievement for a shopping centre built in 1992.

The joint focus of owner CBRE Global Investors and shopping centre manager CBRE on quality and sustainability has now also resulted in a nomination for the 2017 international BREEAM Awards. These Awards - dubbed the Oscars of sustainable buildings - place a spotlight on the most sustainable buildings in the world. Heuvel shopping centre was nominated in the category retail in-use.

An expert jury will judge the nominations based on a case study. Taken into account are the BREEAM scores, the innovations used and the potential for scaling up. The renovated shopping centre in Eindhoven was also nominated for the public choice award, the Your BREEAM Public Vote Award. The winners will be announced during an awards ceremony on the evening of 7 March 2017 at the London Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square. A total of eight Dutch projects have been nominated. During last year’s BREEAM Awards, The Edge, located in Amsterdam’s Zuidas district, won two awards in the categories Offices New Construction and Your BREEAM Public Vote Award.

For CBRE Global Investors, sustainability is a fundamental part of the strategy of our funds. We are of course very proud of this nomination, which is the result of our efforts to make sustainability a fundamental part of all the choices made during the redevelopment and the exploitation of Heuvel shopping centre. This way, we reaffirm and maintain our position as the most sustainable real estate investor in the Netherlands.
Martijn Vlasveld, Director Asset Development CBRE Global Investors
Friso Sijbertsma, Associate Director CBRE
Sustainability plays a crucial role in CBRE’s processes. During operation and management, we choose the most sustainable alternatives available, and Heuvel shopping centre was no exception. By considering every sustainability opportunity with CBRE Global Investors in the redevelopment process, we have managed to achieve particularly durable results for Heuvel. The nomination for the international BREEAM Awards is proof of this.
