414 million sq feet of CBRE client properties participate in Earth Hour 2011

CB Richard Ellis Group, Inc. (CBRE) announced today that 414 million square feet of properties it manages for clients participated in WWWF’s Earth Hour 2011. In addition, CBRE influenced an estimated 1.6 million of those properties’ occupants to participate in the event. CBRE joined a diverse group of leading businesses in supporting this global initiative.

On Saturday, March 26, 8:30 - 9:30 p.m. local time, Earth Hour took place in a record 134 countries, with hundreds of millions of people in thousands of communities taking part. Earth Hour is a movement that unites cities, businesses, schools, organizations and individuals around the globe by turning out lights for one hour in a symbolic and unified call for action on climate change.

In 2007, CBRE became the first and only commercial real estate services firm to commit to becoming carbon neutral in its own operations. CBRE also assists property owners and occupiers with energy efficiency programs at the building space it manages globally. As the leading commercial real estate services firm, CBRE was uniquely positioned to influence participation in Earth Hour around the world.

Robert Lodder, Executive Director Property Management: “We are delighted that our clients were willing to participate in this global initiative. Thanks to the cooperation of real estate owners and end users we could turn off the lights in many Dutch buildings (190,000 sq m in total). As a worldwide organisation, our responsibility goes a lot further than providing our clients with quality and therefore we are happy to have contributed to this sustainable hour.'

CBRE’s EMEA Energy and Sustainability practice supports reduction of corporate impact on the environment through sustainable design and fit-out (including BREEAM), energy cost savings, legal and regulatory compliance, benchmarking and bespoke carbon reduction initiatives. CBRE’s exclusive partnership with global energy consultancy McKinnon & Clarke (M&C) enables the purchase of cost-effective electricity, gas and water, and offers invoice validation services on behalf of CBRE clients across Europe.
