Cairn Real Estate signs lease for Blaak16, ROTTERDAM

BREEAM Excellent voor herontwikkeling

DirectPay has signed a new multi-year lease with Cairn Real Estate and Kadans for the lease of 2,650 sq. m. of office space and the associated parking spaces for Blaak16 in Rotterdam. DirectPay will move into the building no later than 1 November 2017 and has chosen Blaak16 for its strategic central location in the heart of Rotterdam’s city centre and business district, the quality of the building and the large open-plan workspaces (approx. 1,500 sq. m.). The design of the interior will be tailored to the new tenant’s needs and specifications.

General Director of Cairn Real Estate Pieter Akkermans says, “The redevelopment of Blaak16 is an excellent example of our joint vision to restructure the Dutch office market in innovative and ambitious ways. Blaak16’s design has earned the BREEAM ‘Excellent’ certification and will receive Energy label A after it is completed. We are proud to be able to redevelop an iconic building like Blaak16 with our partners to create a modern, sustainable and multi-functional office building that will be preserved as a landmark building in the future.”

CIO of DirectPay, Marcel van Toer: “One year ago we started looking for a suitable location to accommodate the explosive growth of our credit management services. Some important aspects that were taken into account during the selection process included excellent accessibility, flexibility, quality and charm, all of which will benefit both our clients as well as our employees. Blaak16 beautifully embodies all of these qualities. The transparency of the building also allows us to create an inspiring working environment where everyone is able to flourish.”

Cairn Real Estate acquired the office building together with Kadans and a consortium of investors. Impact Vastgoed is responsible for the realisation of the project and the redevelopment will be carried out by Dura Vermeer and Hendriks Bouw en Ontwikkeling. The building is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2017.

During the transaction, DirectPay was advised by CBRE, who were also contracted for the project management of the interior design. BRIQ real estate was advisor to the landlord. Talks are currently underway with various potential building users for the remaining 11,350 sq. m. of office space.
