Syntrus Achmea acquires 542 apartments in Plaza West, Haarlem

Dutch pension funds have acquired 542 new apartments and covered parking spaces through Syntrus Achmea Real Estate & Finance. The apartments are located in the urban development project of Plaza West Haarlem B.V. It is the largest acquisition of new-build homes in 2016 so far.

Bedrijfspensioenfonds voor de Landbouw (BPL) has acquired 236 apartments in the liberated sector. A second client and Achmea Dutch Residential Fund have each acquired 153 apartments to add to their portfolios. Multiple pension funds are participating in the residential fund. For Syntrus Achmea RE&F this is the largest residential acquisition ever.

The apartments are part of the large-scale urban development Plaza West in the district Leidsevaart Area, west of the historic center of Haarlem. Plaza West is a development of Plaza West Haarlem BV, a private partnership.

The Amsterdam architect Jos Eldonk is responsible for the urban planning design. The broad public zone between the residential complexes offers access to commercial facilities including two supermarkets, a gym, an indoor playground and other retail for daily groceries. The individual blocks are designed by EVE Architects.

The full realisation is handled by M.J. de Nijs en Zonen B.V. in Warmenhuizen. The construction of the first residential blocks is expected to start in the second quarter of 2017. The final properties will be completed in 2020.

CBRE acted on behalf of the seller. The real estate advisor provided integrated advice in optimizing the housing program, arrangement of the funding and commercial advice during the sale process. BOEKEL provided legal advice, just like Houthoff Buruma on behalf of the buyer.
