The Core nominated for award for Interior of the Year 2019

The new headquarters of CBRE Netherlands, The Core, has been nominated for the award for Interior of the Year 2019 by Architectenweb. The Core is a fifty year old former car garage in the Schinkelgebied area and was completely renovated in the course of a year to create a modern and innovative office building. The building was given a second life while visibly retaining the authenticity of the former car workshop. The old overhead doors and the saw-tooth roofs for example are still a part of the building’s interior.

Comfortable and popular workplace

“The idea of four zones for different styles of working is a unique solution,” says the jury. “The interior has lots of greenery and offers plenty of natural light, as well as exciting ways to separate spaces using curtains and plants. An outdated industrial complex has been turned into an on-trend and modern space, a comfortable and popular workplace,” explains the jury on the Architectenweb website. Five projects were nominated in total.

Own design

Real estate advisor CBRE designed its new head offices in just over a year, supervised by Ramon Beijen.

Ramon Beijen, Creative Director at CBRE: “We are very proud of this nomination. Our team has worked tirelessly to create the best possible working environment for our colleagues, while designing an inspirational space perfectly suited to teaming up with our customers and designing new working environments. The Core focuses on the people using the building, and fosters interconnectedness and cooperation between colleagues and customers. It’s cool to see that the results have been received with such enthusiasm.”

Four zones

The Core is divided into four separate zones, each with a uniquely suitable appearance. The Cafe is a cosy and informal meeting space for customers and colleagues. The Workshop is the lively heart of our offices and is vibrant with activity while breathing innovation. The northern light comes in through the saw-tooth roofs and working together is possible at plenty of project tables or in break-outs and stand-ups. At the Client Lab, colleagues can work together in co-creation with customers to find solutions and answers to issues. In a flexible setting and with help from creative workshops and events. Finally, the Library is located on the first floor – a place where colleagues can focus on work in peace and quiet.

Exceptionally spacious

The office knows few boundaries. Lines of sight and walking routes are clear, intuitive and uninterrupted. Another characteristic element is the eye-catching number of plants. In addition to boosting the air quality and, as a result, our colleagues’ health and productivity, this wealth of greenery imbues the offices with a unique atmosphere.
